4 Beautiful Ways to Experience Reiki

What is Reiki?

If you clicked on the link to this blog post, you may already have had the opportunity to experience Reiki, and be interested in exploring it further. Just in case you’re not, here’s a very quick explanation of Reiki:

Reiki is a holistic, energy healing modality created be Sensei Usui in Japan in the early 20th Century. The word “Reiki” is a combination of two Japanese words: “rei” meaning universal or spiritual, and “ki” meaning life energy or vital force. In essence, Reiki can be translated as “universal life energy.”

Reiki is based on the belief that there is a life force energy that flows through all living beings, and when this energy is balanced and flowing freely, it supports the body’s ability to heal itself. This has interesting points of connection with recent scientific discoveries about the electromagnetic signals sent around the bodies of all living beings.

The practice of Reiki involves the channeling of this universal life energy through the practitioner’s hands to the recipient, promoting relaxation, stress reduction, and overall well-being. Interestingly, from the times of its original creator, Reiki was also used at a distance. This coincides with several scientific studies done on the healing benefits of prayer and ‘energy sending’ to people in hospital!

We all have energy flowing through our bodies at all times (at least while we are alive). And we can all have additional energy channelled through us to help remove blockages or simply increase the strength of the energetic signal: to boost our body’s natural healing abilities. There are quite a number of studies on this here, here, here and here.

So, what are 4 beautiful ways to experience Reiki?

Let’s explore each of these in more detail…

Experience Reiki through an in-person treatment

Normally, an in-person Reiki treatment takes place fully clothed. Preferably lying down, for maximum comfort and relaxation, though it can also be done seated.

What you can expect is a clean, pleasant environment, and for the Reiki practitioner to talk through with you what you are looking for. You then lie down and allow the relaxing, healing energy to flow through you. Most people describe feelings of warmth, or a pleasant tingling, or simply a feeling of deep calm, during the session.

Using my psychosensory approach to Reiki, I will normally guide you through a supportive meditation while you are receiving the treatment, to boost its effect. If you would prefer just music, or silence, I am happy to follow your preferences. After all, it’s your session!

Experience Reiki through a distance treatment

While some practitioners will set up a time and date for a remote reiki session, and recommend the client simply sit or lie somewhere quiet at that time, I prefer Zoom sessions. In this way, we can discuss more fully what you want, and I can also offer you a guided meditation to enhance the benefits of the session.

Some people like to simply lie comfortably, and listen and feel what is going on. Others like to take a more active approach, laying their own hands on the places I guide them to. In this way, their own energy is added to the flow, and they are able to boost the sensory experience for themselves.

Experience Reiki through a meditation

Reiki can also be experienced by listening to a meditation.

There is a very brief, Reiki refresh meditation here. Below, I offer a longer (17 minute) chakra-balancing Reiki meditation. This is aimed at bringing a greater sense of calm and well-being in many different aspects of your self, as well as helping you feel more grounded. You can place your hands as I guide you, or simply enjoy listening and noticing the peace and relaxation.

I have used the Reiki distance healing protocols to establish a connection with anyone who chooses to listen to this meditation, and set up and charged a crystal grid to boost and hold this energetic connection. Enjoy!

Experience Reiki through learning

Learning and practicing Reiki can foster a sense of connection with yourself, others, and the world. You may find that it enhances your spiritual awareness and sense of purpose. It can also help you feel a greater sense of emotional well-being and mental clarity.

An amazing benefit of learning Reiki at Level 1 is that you can then offer yourself this gift at any time you feel need of it. You can also use it with friends and family.

And if you carry on to Level 2, you can also offer Reiki sessions professionally, if you want. This can give you a greater sense of purpose, as well as being a potential way of earning money for doing something that benefits others.

Many people decided to carry on to Level 2 simply as a way to deepen their understanding of this nurturing healing modality. It is also when you learn to do distance healing, which can be helpful for family who aren’t nearby, or who struggle to sit or lie still – I’m looking at you, kiddo

Finally, studying to Level 3 or 4 allows you to teach others. In teaching, we always learn something for ourselves, as well as having the joy of sharing something of value.
